Venue Spotlight - 128 South
If you're in the market for a wedding venue in downtown Wilmington, you should really do yourself a favor and visit the 128 South building. It has so much Old Wilmington character and Victorian charm, you really don't need much in terms of decorations to make this venue your dream location. And oh, now that I've mentioned location - let me explain. 128 South sits on the corner of Front & Orange Streets, in the center of downtown Wilmington. With a view of the Cape Fear River from the back deck and the convenience of virtually everything downtown has to offer at it's front door - this spot is ideal. Here's a little bit more about 128 from their website:
128 South is located in the historic VonKampen Building (circa 1862) and features one of the last great examples of a Victorian façade including the original stained glass windows. Over the years, the building has housed a variety of businesses including restaurants, bar, art gallery, travel agency, deli, and grocery store. During the late 1800s the W. H. S. Fuchs Dry Goods was housed in the building and offered the largest grocery store in three counties. Some features include exposed heart-of-pine beams, hardwood floors throughout, and enormous bay windows with views of South Front Street.
The interior is an open floor plan with a second floor mezzanine overlooking the lower level which provides event planners the ease and flexibility of manipulating the space in several different formats. Whether you're looking for an intimate dinner reception for 75 or a heavy hors d'oeuvres reception for 175, 128 South can accommodate you. And the bonus is the huge tented deck off the backside of the building that can be used for your ceremony and then flipped for your cocktail hour or after dinner dance-floor and entertainment space. And on top of all this - 128 South caters as well!
I had the opportunity to tour the space with Meredith - the events director at 128 South - and she was an absolute pleasure. Extremely knowledgable on the various possibilities at 128 South and very friendly. The kind of lady I'd want to be friends with simply because of the ease you immediately feel upon meeting her. I'm sure all of her brides feel that way as well.
